Formground brings together independent makers of design led products with those who are looking for something original. Chairs, tables, benches, lamps, vases, bowls — if it's real and it's online, it's searchable here.

Why this exists

Small studios and independent makers create beautiful, original design, but they rarely have the marketing budget or presence to be found alongside established brands. Search for a specific kind of furniture, lighting, ceramics, or object, and you'll find established brands long before you find the design of independent makers. Not because it isn't there — because visibility was never built for them.

Formground exists to close that gap.

A curated community

Formground searches through a curated community of makers, not an open directory. No one pays to be part of the community, no one pays to be found, no one pays to rank higher, and every result leads straight back to the makers themselves.

There are no filters, no categories to click through — simply describe what you're after, the way you'd describe it to a friend. Formground is for discovery — it simply helps you find something original and links you to the maker's site.

Why smaller makers show up here

Most discovery tools require a maker to apply, submit a catalog, or maintain a profile. Formground doesn't ask that. If it's on a maker's own site, it can be found here — a single hand-carved piece from someone with no website beyond a simple portfolio page shows up with the same weight as a maker with a full catalog of furniture and lighting.

That's deliberate. A maker shouldn't need a marketing team to be findable.

For makers

Formground currently covers furniture, lighting, ceramics, and objects. All makers are welcome to reach out, even if the current range is a single chair, table, lamp, or vase.

Where things stand

Formground is still early — a small, growing community of independent makers from Italy, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Japan, Poland, and beyond, built thoughtfully rather than quickly. It won't try to be everything — just useful, and honest about how it works.
